Irish Autism ActionIF you've got an old mobile phone or two lying in the back of a drawer, Dundalk Lions Club wants you to donate them so that they can help Autism Ireland buy iPads for children with special needs.
'For every 165 phones collected, Autism Ireland can buy an iPad for a child with autism,' said Tadgh O'Sullivan, project co-ordinator Dundalk Lions Club.
'We are getting in touch with Transition Year students in all the local schools to get them to help out and already the TY students from Bush Post-Primary School have come on board,' he said. He's also delighted that a number of major companies including National Pen, Heinz, and Sitar are supporting the campaign. 'We are working with SNAP and Dundalk Parents and Friends of the Mentally Handicapped to indentify those children who will benefit from an iPad.'
People can donate old unwanted mobile phones, preferably with batteries, by using the pre-paid envelopes which are available in local shops or through members of the Lions Club.
There is also a special account in Ulster Bank for anyone wishing to make a donation - account number 11993583.

Lions are men and women who volunteer their time to humanitarian causes in their local communities. Founded in Chicago Illinois U.S.A in 1917 by an Insurance agent Melvin Jones, Lions Clubs International has ever since offered business and professional people a way of sharing their success by helping those less fortunate than themselves.
Lionism came to Ireland in 1955 when the first Club was formed in Dublin To-day there are 115 Clubs with a membership just over 2850. Ireland is one District with no division between Northern Ireland and The Republic.
To Lions the motto "WE SERVE" is not only a motto but a philosophy. Membership in a Lion's club is by invitation. Clubs meet at least twice a month.
